Matt Hancock, the UK's health secretary and Newmarket's MP, on Friday tested positive for COVID-19. Hancock was tested after displaying mild symptoms. He tweeted on Friday: “Thank you so much for all the kind messages since I announced I have coronavirus. Thankfully for me it is mild but I'm just so glad the NHS is there in case it were worse.
“Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I'm working from home and self-isolating. Vital we follow the advice to protect our NHS and save lives.”
Hancock is a proponent of racing, sometimes rides out for John Gosden and won the 2012 Town Plate aboard Gosden's Dick Doughtywylie.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson also tested positive on Friday for COVID-19 after displaying mild symptoms. He is also self-isolating and working from home.
